Clear Cut Pictures are delighted to have recently post produced Amazon Original Documentary Kalvin Phillips – The Road to City, an underdog story about one of England’s most promising footballers, who rose from the Leeds United academy to captain the club and now plays for the current European champions. The documentary paints an intimate portrait of a footballer with deep roots and family values as it follows his journey to Manchester City and his dramatic injury ahead of the biggest tournament in football, the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The feature documentary was produced for Prime Video by NEO Studios, utilising Clear Cut’ bespoke UHD workflow. The Clear Cut team relished this creative challenge. Colourist Damion Katwaroo, collaborated with the Director to deliver the distinct look required, blending archival footage from multiple sources and original 4k content into a captivating visual tapestry, brought to life with stunning clarity and emotion in Amazon HDR.
Head of Picture, Ben Salkeld worked to deliver HDR and SDR UHD finishing post using DaVinci Resolve. He intricately painted out and blurred sensitive information behind the scenes at Manchester City using Resolves’ native Fusion effects and BorisFX’s Sapphire OFX plugins. The final polished sequence reflected the football fairytale.
Senior Dubbing Mixer, Nick Ashe, mixing in 5.1, seamlessly wove together archive football commentary with constructed replacement commentary, crowd and football SFX and carefully enhanced original sources. Nick successfully delivered the brief to emulate the passion of a live football game to tell Kalvin’s on-pitch story.
